Shippensburg University will be offering an Advanced Studies in
Counseling (Post Master’s) – Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificate starting in fall 2008. The post-master’s graduate certificate in drug and alcohol counseling was developed by the faculty in the Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel to meet the ongoing continuing education needs of Community, Mental Health, College and School Counselors. The four courses in the program, which focus on drug and alcohol counseling, were designed to be flexible in order to accommodate the demanding schedules as well as geographic locations of counselors and mental health practitioners. New MAP – Millersville’s Advancement Program in Education
Millersville University’s MAP program consists of two graduate courses offered in an accelerated format allowing completion within one semester starting in fall 2008. The courses provide instruction on the topics of Special Education and English as a Second Language. Credits earned meet Chapter 49-2 requirements as well as Act 48 requirements. All six credits can also be applied towards the M.Ed. in Special Education and the M.Ed. in Language & Literacy. Three of the credits can be applied towards the twelve credit ESL Certificate.
Millersville University’s M.Ed. in Special Education cohort program is a year-round three-year program (for those without prior Special Education certification). Courses begin in spring 2009 for those who only need the master’s degree (for those in need of Special Education certification, one or two courses will be offered in fall 2008). The first course offering for the 2009 Cohort will be in the spring semester (SPED 611:Seminar in Learning Disabilities and N.I.). Note that for those in need of the 18 credits to obtain the Special Education certification, the first course will be offered in fall 2008 – SPED 600: Orientation to Special Education. East Stroudsburg University Offers Public Health Certificate
East Stroudsburg University will be offering a Public Health Certificate starting in fall 2008. This certificate is an 18-credit program that provides training in the core public health content areas that form part of ESU’s accredited MPH program. The program is designed for professionals with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree who wish to gain an educational foundation in public health. The certificate content areas include scientific foundations of public health; public health administration; applied statistical skills used in public health practice; environmental health; and a 150-hour fieldworks experience where students work on a special project at their worksite under the supervision and mentorship of an ESU faculty member. Courses are taught online and on weekends at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg, PA.
