Dixon University Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 6-13-08
In a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dixon University Center today celebrated a $1.4 million renovation that includes 11 new multimedia classrooms.
The renovations come at a time of rapid growth for the center.
As many as 11 colleges and universities statewide are expected to offer programs at the center in the upcoming academic year.
Enrollment has reached 2,100 students -- up almost 24 percent from a year ago, Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed said today.
The history of Dixon's uptown campus as an educational facility goes back 100 years to 1908, according to the center.
Reed said combined with other developments, Dixon's growth marks Harrisburg's emergence as a city of learning.
"The city of Harrisburg has evolved into a center for higher education," he said.
York-based Buchart-Horn Inc./Basco Associates was the architect of the project. Dillsburg-based Lobar Inc. was the general contractor.
"It's a facility that all of us can be proud of," said Judy G. Hample, chancellor for the Pennsylvania state systems of higher education.
